drupa 2008, DÜSSELDORF, 30 May, 2008 – Canon Europe, world leader in digital imaging technology, is supporting its long-term conservation partner WWF by printing and distributing the WWF Pocket Guide to a One Planet Lifestyle at drupa. To raise environmental awareness, Canon will be printing the sustainable lifestyles booklet on–demand on the imagePRESS C7000VP using Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) accredited M-real Ikono Gloss. The 64-page booklet is part of WWF’s One Planet Living initiative to raise awareness and support for the reduction in the ecological footprint created by individuals and businesses. If everyone lived the lifestyle of the average European, the WWF estimates we would need two and a half planets to satisfy our demands for energy and natural resources. Eduardo Gonçalves, Global Coordinator of WWF International’s One Planet Living initiative, said: “We are thankful of Canon’s support for this campaign. Printing, like every manufacturing industry, faces its own challenges but if just a few printers go away from drupa thinking about how they can reduce their environmental footprint, then we shall have gone some way to helping our One Planet Future objectives.” The easy-to-use guide is based on the ten “One Planet Living” principles of sustainability, including Health and Happiness, Culture and Heritage and Zero Carbon. The guide explains in practical terms what steps everyone can take either at home or in their company in order to reduce the impact on the environment, offering easy-to-follow advice for both the home and office such as using public transport in place of a car or ensuring IT equipment is turned off after use. Surrie Everett-Pascoe, European Environment and Product Safety Director, Canon Europe, said: “Building on Canon’s long-term support of the WWF, the One Planet Living guide will raise awareness of the immense environmental challenges that we are all facing. To reduce unnecessary waste, we are printing the booklet for anyone requesting it on the Canon stand and would welcome any printer who is looking for hints and tips to improve their approach to the environment.” Canon has been supporting the WWF as a conservation partner since 1998. Ongoing projects include its sponsorship of the WWF-Canon Polar Bear Tracker project, which includes the first pan-European educational project ever undertaken by WWF. More information is available here: www.panda.org/polarbears. The One Planet lifestyles Guide will be available on-demand at the Canon stand B46 in hall 8A as part of the imagePRESS C7000VP demonstrations.
