The Canon Workflow Program demonstrates hybrid workflows Partnerships with Agfa Graphics and Heidelberg JDF compatibility on all systems Hybrid workflows will generate the most profits, according to the Insight Report from Canon
drupa 2008, DUSSELDORF, MAY 30, 2008 – Canon Europe, world leader in digital imaging technology, is today showcasing a range of industry solutions from two Canon Workflow Program Strategic Partners – Agfa Graphics and Heidelberg - designed to offer full functionality for users of mixed print rooms using both digital and offset press technology. The collaborations will show how offset and digital presses can work seamlessly with only one workflow system. David Preskett, European Marketing Director, Professional Solutions, Canon Europe said: “The Insight Report, a study we are launching at drupa written by industry expert Frank Romano, specifically highlights that printers operating hybrid workflows will be the most profitable print operations in the future. “Print is no longer about putting ink on paper. It is all about adding value, being able to commoditise your expertise, and to sell the value rather than your time. Printers with mixed print rooms – comprising both digital and offset presses - will be able to provide the greatest range of services to the widest number of people, so we are delighted that our Strategic Partnerships are now delivering the results we need to support our customers’ business growth.” Integration between the Apogee workflow suite from Agfa Graphics and the imagePRESS range of digital presses is being demonstrated on the Canon stand. The workflow alliance, first announced in March this year, is a leading edge JDF workflow solution enabling customers to unify their traditional and pre-press workflows on one print room. The Apogee product is one of the most widely used workflow solutions on the market. Its integration with the imagePRESS range allows it to increase its functionality dramatically by leveraging the flexibility of high quality digital print production and proofing. Apogee joins Heidelberg’s Prinect workflow integration, in development with Canon since 2006, to provide a unified digital and offset solution for customers in a hybrid workflow environment. With Prinect Digital Print Manager, Heidelberg offers its customers a standardised Workflow for offset printing and digital printing, removing redundant workflows and enabling both job types to be controlled and calculated with one workflow through the entire production process. Customers using Prinect Digital Print Manager have proven that standardisation and automation of the prepress processes greatly improves productivity leading to more reliable production and shorter turnaround times for digital printing. In addition, depending on the job, print service providers can select the fastest and most cost-effective print method – or even a combination of two print methods – as appropriate, such as for short runs, proofs, and print-on-demand jobs. The Strategic Partnerships are part of Canon’s Workflow Program, which aims to support print providers with the right solution in order to increase their revenue and business growth. The Canon WorkFlow Program consists of a portfolio of software solutions designed to assist and enhance the workflow process for professional printers. These include colour management, production workflow and variable data solutions, all of which are underpinned with professional services and consultancy from Canon’s Solutions Business Consultants. Both hybrid workflow solutions will be demonstrated on the Canon stand B46 in Hall 8A at drupa in the Commercial Print zone, with further information on commercial availability to be announced soon.
