Canon and EFI win plaudits for the imagePROGRAF iPF5100 and iPF6100 LFPs

  • Canon ImagePROGRAF iPF5100 and imagePROGRAF iPF6100 awarded FOGRA certification

  • European Digital Press Association Award for proofing presented  to the imagePROGRAF iPF5100

  • Success is a direct result of collaboration between Canon and EFI

drupa 2008, Dusseldorf, 30 May 2008 – Canon Europe, world leader in digital imaging, has today announced it has been awarded prestigious accolades for the abilities of its leading large format printers, the imagePROGRAF iPF5100 and the imagePROGRAF iPF6100. Both printers, running with an EFI Colorproof XF RIP, were awarded FOGRA certification for their print qualities, whilst the iPF5100 was also presented with the European Digital Press Association award for its proofing abilities.

The FOGRA standard put the printers through 13 stringent tests for permanence, light fastness, homogeneity, rub resistance, tone value difference, reproduction limits, proofing, colour and gloss. They were tested on three proofing papers, including Canon Proof Paper Glossy and Semi-Gloss on a range of weights from 195gsm to 255gsm.

The FOGRA Graphic Technology Research Association, a leading development, funding and consultancy service with more than 600 worldwide members, presents the certification after a printer proves it can pass the stringent quality control tests.

Wilfred Kampe, EFI Sales Director, Worldwide, Graphic Arts Solutions says: “We are delighted to have been recognised by a world renowned establishment such as FOGRA for our work with Canon. For the EFI Colorproof XF RIP to work so effectively with the Canon imagePROGRAF iPF5100 and iPF6100 series has taken years of cooperation and development between the two companies.”

The European Digital Press Association (EDP) has also honoured the imagePROGRAF iPF5100 with the Best Proofing Equipment of the Year 2008 award. The EDP is made up of publishers from leading European magazines devoted to digital printing and associated products. Agustin Torres, EDP chairman, says: “The award was presented to the iPF5100 for its improved ease of use, print quality, ink properties, colour stability and the densitometer-based calibration system.”

With publications from 15 European countries, a combined circulation of more than 120,000 copies and a readership exceeding 250,000 graphic arts professionals, the EDP award is a prestigious recognition of the ability of the iPF5100 for accurate proofing standards.

Anne Sharp, European Marketing Manager, Large Format Solutions, Canon Europe, says: “We are delighted to be presented with both the FOGRA certification and the EDP accolade. The FOGRA standard is very hard won but after our development work with EFI the product is a very strong offering, so we were confident in its abilities. The award from the EDP is the icing on the cake for the exceptional proofing abilities that the imagePROGRAF 12-colour range  presents and we are doubly pleased to have been granted the award.”

The iPF5100 and iPF6100 are both 12-colour pigment ink printers specifically designed to meet the needs of the proofing but also the photography and fine art markets. They utilise twin-head 1-inch high density print heads, each with 30,720 nozzles, resulting in four-picolitre ink droplets. The results ensure delicate colour gradation, high definition expression and accuracy. The iPF5100 is a17” (A2) size printer, while the iPF6100 is 24” (A1) printer, both featuring borderless print capabilities - a feature unique to Canon.
