Device Technology

Much like the role of the engine to a car, a device is a working component of equipment that renders basic capabilities to the equipment.

Canon devices in the field of imaging technology span the range from input and processing systems to output and communications technologies. For example, Canon input devices have expanded from sensors utilized in the companyÍs facsimile machines, scanners, cameras and copiers, to advanced CMOS and X-ray Image Sensors. Applications for output devices include LCD Color Filters, which are realized through CanonÍs proprietary Bubble Jet printing technology. Additionally, the development of next-generation semiconductor wafers, the basis for these devices, will soon usher in their practical application.

These innovations are human-centric devices, the final target of Canon's unique R&D activities in this area. Human-centric devices are those devices that are capable of handling image data, reported to account for about 80% of all information, in a more humanlike fashion to make conveying it all the more easier. In this way, Canon aims to facilitate greater freedom and control in helping people to create their own world of communication.
